Short Text: Special Education program association IEP end date is missing or is invalid.
Long Text: Special Education program association IEP end date is missing or is invalid. IEP/ISP begin date of Special Education program association is required and must be within the school year of this resource or the next school year.
NOTE: This record will still be included in your Oct 1 Child Count data, even with invalid dates.
ALSO NOTE: If you have a third-party, special education vendor tool, the IEP end date must be sent to WISEdata using this third-party, special education vendor tool.
If you only use a main SIS, then submit the value from that main SIS.
If you need help, please reach out to your vendor support representative to learn how to submit this value. DPI cannot provide SIS specific support.
How to Fix: Scenario 1: Expired IEP
- Verify the date of the student’s most recent IEP evaluation/re-evaluation. This IEP date should be either in the current school year or the upcoming school year (i.e., next year).
- HOWEVER: If the student’s IEP has “expired” (i.e., date is not within the school year or previous school year), it is still valid and in force until the IEP re-evaluation. Therefore, if special education services are still being provided and are following the expired IEP, then the sSEPA record will be counted in the Oct. 1 count.
- Leave the dates as they are and proceed with Scenario 2 when IEP dates have been updated.
- Optional: Use the “Tags” and “Comment” features on the Validation screen in WISEdata Portal to annotate information about this Error.
Scenario 2: Current IEP, Wrong Date in WISEdata
- Verify the date of the student’s most recent IEP evaluation/re-evaluation. This IEP date should be either in the current school year or the upcoming school year (i.e., next year).
- Enter the corrected date of the IEP end date into the appropriate SIS:
- Use your third-party, special education vendor tool SIS, if you have one.
- Use your primary SIS to send the data if you do not use a special education SIS.
- Update with a push to WISEdata Portal.
- You can use the “Queue Manual Validation and Import” option in WISEdata Portal. If you enter your email, check that the value has updated in WISEdata Portal when you receive your email notification.
- You can wait for the overnight validation and check WISEdata Portal the following day.
This value can be viewed in WISEdata Portal on the Student Details screen.
- Expand the gray “Programs” header to view the program records.
- Expand the teal “Special Education” sub-header to view the:

Example for Scenario 1: District Deb notes Error 6594 on Jeanie’s record that her IEP end date is invalid. When Deb looks into the situation, she learns that Jeanie has not had an IEP re-evaluation, with her SSEPA record still displaying an end date from the prior school year. Deb verifies that Jeanie’s IEP Team have not convened for a re-evaluation yet. Deb does not modify the IEP end date and therefore cannot clear the error. She does, however, annotate her findings about this student using the “Tags” and “Comment” features on the Validation screen in WISEdata Portal. She applies the SPEDTeam tag and types a short comment. When Jeanie’s IEP is updated, Deb will correct the dates at that time.
Example for Scenario 2: District Deb notes Error 6594 on Jeanie’s record that her IEP end date is invalid. When Deb looks into the situation, she learns that Jeanie recently had an IEP re-evaluation on November 1, 2025, for this current school year, while her record still displays the outdated end date from the prior school year. Deb verifies that Jeanie’s sSEPA start date is correct and aligns with the new IEP begin date of 11/1/2025. Then she modifies the IEP end date to 10/31/2026, a year from the start date, to clear the error. If Deb’s District uses a third-party special education vendor tool:
- Deb submits Sam’s IEP Begin date using the third-party special education vendor tool.
If Deb’s District uses only a primary vendor tool:
- Deb submits Sam’s IEP Begin date using primary vendor tool.
Technical Details:
- Business Rule Logic: Calculation—IEPEndDate of sSEPA is NOT within the school year of this resource or the next school year.
- This validation is functioning as intended (Currently not listed on the bug issues list).
- This validation should be resolved prior to the December Student Snapshot
