Summary

Short Text: An In-School Suspension, IAES by School Personnel or IAES by Hearing Officer Discipline Action was sent for a student without a disability. DPI only accepts these Discipline Actions for students with a disability (IDEA eligible) as of the Discipline Date.

Long Text: An In-School Suspension, IAES by School Personnel or IAES by Hearing Officer Discipline Action was sent for a student without a disability. DPI only accepts these Discipline Actions for students with a disability (IDEA eligible) as of the Discipline Date.

  • If the student had a disability as of the Discipline Date, ensure the Student Special Education Program Association (sSEPA) records submitted for the student cover the Discipline Date.

  • If the student did not have a disability as of the Discipline Date, then do not send the Discipline Incident or Discipline Action to DPI.

How to Fix: Verify the discipline action the student received after the incident. Also, check to make sure the student has a primary reporting disability submitted and is IDEA eligible. Only students who are IDEA eligible need in-school suspensions or IAES removals reported to WISEdata. If the student does not have an IDEA-eligible primary disability submitted, do not submit the discipline of in-school suspension or IAES removal. If the student is IDEA eligible with a reporting disability (as shown in a sSEPA record or other disability documentation), make sure to submit the appropriate IDEA and disability information. Rectifying the invalid combination will clear the error.

Example: Howie’s record displays an error that he has an invalid discipline and disability combo. District Deb checks into the matter and sees that Howie was recently given an in-school suspension for swearing at and threatening his teacher. Deb checks to see if Howie has a reportable IDEA-eligible primary disability, but he does not have any disability documented nor is he receiving any kind of special education services. Deb knows only those with an IDEA-eligible primary disability need in-school suspensions reported, so she removes the discipline submission to clear the error.
