Validation Warning 7169

Message: This is a School level warning. If Student belongs to a grade level between 9-12 and is enrolled in a course(s), and the student is in class for a minimum amount of time to receive an outcome but Grades record is missing. Districts would see this warning if Attempt status descriptor on /studentSectionAssociation is submitted as Sufficient or not submitted is also considered as Sufficient and grades are not submitted for the student. Refer to the Attempt status Descriptor data element page. If a student has primary enrollments and non-primary coursework enrollments and any primary enrollment has grade level 9 to 12 and the non-primary coursework enrollment the school submitted Roster then the non-primary school of enrollment will be required to submit data elements as if the grade was 9 to 12 regardless of the grade level in the non-primary enrollment sSA.

How to Fix: This warning appears if at least one student in the school in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 is enrolled in a course for the minimum amount of time to receive an outcome but no grade record is submitted for that student. Use the Roster - Student Section Associations without Grades export in WISEdata Portal to verify that the student is in a grade level of 9, 10, 11, or 12 and enrolled in courses. If so, the student should have a final grade/mark submitted, as you are required to submit grades for students in 9-12 grade level range. Ensure a value is entered for Final Grade/Marks and pushed to WISEdata, working with your SIS vendor to determine the location of this field or how to submit, as necessary.

‘Pass/Fail’ is typically expected to be submitted for the Performance Based Conversion Type on competency based courses and project based learning courses.  ‘Pass/Fail’ is used by the Accountability Report Cards for the Postsecondary Preparation and Arts Data informational only sections. 'Not Graded' should not be used for AP / IB / Dual Enrollment, Career Education, CTE or Arts courses.  Doing so risks the student being excluded from the report card course and program data. For more information, refer to the Project Based Learning FAQ.

If there are multiple instances of this warning, you can use the Student Sections Associations without Grades export in WISEdata Portal to obtain a list of students who have section records but with no grades submitted. To use the export, log into WISEdata Portal and go to the Exports page.

Example: District Deb receives a warning that Carly is missing a Grades record for at least one of her courses. She looks into the situation and sees that Carly is a tenth grader and enrolled in courses at Mount Majesty High School. Deb knows that now high school students need final grades/marks submitted, so she finds out which courses were missing grades and enters the appropriate values. Once she submits these to WISEdata, the error will clear.
