How to Fix:

If the student left your school:
Enter an Exit Date and Exit Type and Next Grade Level.

If the student did not exit your school:
Clear these fields.

NOTE: ABOUT NEXT YEAR GRADE LEVEL DESCRIPTOR DATA ELEMENT

The Next Year Grade Level Descriptor can be a confusing data element for this WISEdata Error because it is expected at the end of the school year. Some students may skip a grade, and some students may repeat a grade, and when these instances occur, we expect them to occur at the end of the school year. It would be very rare for a student to skip a grade in the middle of the school year, and it is not possible for a student to repeat a grade mid-year.

Exit Date and Exit Type values are valid year-round, as students can change enrollments (e.g., move) at any time in the school year.

In this Error, when we ask for the Next Year Grade Level Descriptor, WISEdata is actually seeking, "What is the next enrollment grade level for this student?” The grade level you provide for this in a mid-year scenario would be based on how the student has performed thus far in your school.

Exit Type Example:

Sarai attended school as an 11th grader for the 2025-26 school year until her family moved to a new public school district on May 1, 2026. The school year is not yet over. District Deb entered May 1 in Sarai's record as her Exit Date and grade 11 as her Next Year Grade Level but did not enter an Exit Type. Now Deb is receiving an error that Sarai's exit information is incomplete. Deb needs to enter an exit type, such as TC, to clear the error.

Exit Date Example:

Sarai attended school as an 11th grader for the 2025-26 school year until her family moved to a new public school district on May 1, 2026. The school year is not yet over. District Deb entered TC in Sarai's record as her Exit Type and grade 11 as her Next Year Grade Level but did not enter an Exit Date. Now Deb is receiving an error that Sarai's exit information is incomplete. Deb enters Sarai's exit date (May 1, 2026) to clear the error.

Next Grade Level Example:

Student leaves mid-school year:
Sarai attended Rose Petal school for the 2025-26 school year as an 11th grader until her family moved to Lilac public school district on May 1, 2026. The school year is not yet over. District Deb entered TC in Sarai's record as her Exit Type and May 1 as her Exit Date but did not enter the Next Year Grade Level for Sarai. Now Deb is receiving an error that Sarai's exit information is incomplete. Since the school year is not yet over and Sarai is in 11th grade, Deb asks herself, "What is the next enrollment grade level for this student?” Deb enters grade 12 for Sarai’s Next Year Grade Level based on her performance at Rose Petal school.

Student leaves after completing school year:
Sarai attended school for the 2025-26 school year as an 11th grader. Her family moved to a new public school district on July 1, 2026, after the school year ended. Sarai completed 11th grade. District Deb entered TC in Sarai's record as her Exit Type and July 1 as her Exit Date but did not enter the Next Year Grade Level for Sarai. Now Deb is receiving an error that Sarai's exit information is incomplete. Sarai successfully completed 11th grade, so Deb enters grade 12 as her Next Year Grade Level.

Throw on SSA, when any of the following conditions are met:

Exit Date is NULL, AND Exit Type is not NULL,
OR
NextYearGradeLevelDescriptor is Null and Exit Type = ETC or TC,

OR
Exit Date is not NULL, AND Exit Type is NULL (applies to only primary enrollment).

Business Rule Logic for 2024-25 SY and prior:
Throw on SSA. Exit Date is not NULL and Exit Type is NULL. Check for valid enrollment.
