Short Text:The language submitted should not be used for the language of instruction.

Long Text: The language of instruction submitted is improbable, no longer used, or obsolete. Verify that the language submitted is correct.

How to Fix: This is a new validation message starting in 23/24SY, which will throw a warning when Districts send a language of instruction which is no longer used or is obsolete.

To fix:

  1. On WISEdata Portal, view the School Roster Details screen to view the course using the language in question. Use filters for school and term to help find the required results.

  2. Locate the Primary Language of Instruction.

  3. Check the Primary Language of Instruction listed against the table of obsolete languages, located in the FAQ section of the Native Language data element page.

  4. Correct or remove as needed:

    1. If the Primary Language of Instruction is on the list of obsolete languages, replace it with a non-obsolete language.

    2. If the course is taught in English, you can leave this data element blank.

    3. If the language of instruction is correctly listed, acknowledge the warning.

Example: District Deb sees Warning 7479. She investigates to see that this warning has thrown on World Language course. This is a higher level French course, and Deb knows students are expected to both understand and speak in French during this class. Deb notices that the Primary Language of Instruction is listed as: “French, Old.” Deb refers to the table of obsolete languages on the Native Language data element page, and sees that Old French refers to the way French was spoken in the 1400’s. Deb sees this entry was a typo, corrects the Primary Language of Instruction to “French” which clears the warning.

Business Rule Logic: Throw on /section. If InstructionLanguageDescriptor submitted is 'Obsolete' (ObsoleteLanguage Table).
