Short Text:The language submitted should not be used for the Native language.

Long Text: The native language submitted is improbable, no longer used, or obsolete. Verify the submitted language and select another language.

How to Fix: This is a new validation message starting in 23/24SY, which will throw an error on Districts that select Native languages which are no longer used or are obsolete.

To fix:

  1. On WISEdata Portal, view the Demographics on the Student Detail screen for the student associated with this Error.

  1. Locate their Native Language.

  2. Check the Native Language listed against the table of obsolete languages, located in the FAQ section of the Native Language data element page.

  3. Correct or remove the Native Language if the language is on the list of obsolete languages. Replace with a non-obsolete language if this applies.

Example: District Deb sees Error 7478. She investigates to see that this Error has thrown on a new student, Frederick, who recently moved to Wisconsin from Johannesburg, South Africa. Frederick’s Native Language is listed as Afrihili. Deb visits the Native Language data element page and opens the link to view the table of obsolete languages. She can see that Afrihili is listed as a ‘constructed’ language. Deb then views the other spreadsheet on the Native Language data element page, the ISO-639-2, which lists almost 500 valid language options for Native Language. Deb speaks to a few staff members who helped get Frederick’s family registered, and confirms with Frederick’s family that his Native Language should actually be listed as Afrikaans. Deb corrects the Native Language on her SIS. She knows that once the nightly data flow cycles from her SIS to WISEdata Portal, this update will clear the error.

Technical Details:

Business Rule Logic: Throw on /SEOA, If StudentLanguage is submitted AND LanguageUseDescriptor is 'Native' AND submitted Language is 'Obsolete' (ObsoleteLanguage Table)
